The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed
A refuge in times of trouble.
Psalm 9:9 (NKJV)
God’s a safe-house for the battered,
a sanctuary during bad times.
The moment you arrive, you relax;
you’re never sorry you knocked.
Psalm 9:9-10 (MSG)
The word refuge means a place of shelter, love and forgiveness. It is a place away from the enemy and storms. It is a place of protection.
I want to encourage us today to be places of refuge. Sometimes a refuge is not simply a physical place, but a spiritual place where people can find what they need. In the Message, it talks about a God being a safe house for the battered. People are being battered today. There is chaos in so many lives. Families are hurting from outside forces trying to bring destruction. I believe we are instruments for the Kingdom of God. We are to be the one God uses to bring healing. People speak hurtful words and say things in anger that causes people to lose hope.
I want you to know that today there is a place of refuge for you. God will give you peace in the storms of life. He will cause you to forget the past and move toward your future. Allow the Lord to use people to give you refuge and allow yourself to be used to give refuge to someone hurting today.
Let God Arise! This was the cry given when the Ark of God began to move. It was to let the enemies know that God was in charge. We are living in days of crisis. Churches are failing. People are afraid of the future. Our country is divided. In the midst of this, it is time to cry out, "Let God Arise! Let His enemies be scattered". I want to affirm to you today that God is able to fight His battles. He is not afraid. He is not asleep. He is not nervous! The earth is His and He will defend His creation.
We live in difficult times. I would also use some other words. Depraved and Deceived. I am saddened by the constant reports that come everyday of a world that does not care about the Kingdom of God. We think, things are bad spiritually as they have ever been. People seem to be unmoved by anything spiritual. Then this is the time for our light to shine. Matthew 5:14 says that we are the light of the world. Matthew 5:16 says for us to let our light shine. We are not to hide our light, but allow it to shine into the world around us.
Destiny-The Purpose of Our Existence
One of the great problems with the church today is that we don't know why we exist. It is not for meetings and programs. It is not to build buildings. We go through our same routines and never affect our generation.
